Welcome to Take a Walk on the Wild Side- Plants and Pollinators!

Embark on a captivating journey into the world of plants and pollinators with our experienced educators amidst the picturesque setting of Mill Mountain. Our journey begins at 11AM in front of the Discovery Center before we start our adventure with native flora and their crucial relationships with pollinators.

Program Highlights:

1. Native Plants and Pollinators Chat (30 mins): Start the morning with a stimulating conversation about the diverse array of native plants and pollinators found on Mill Mountain. Learn about the vital role these plants play in providing habitats and food sources for pollinators, and how pollinators, in turn, contribute to the ecosystem's health and biodiversity.
2. Morning Hike Exploration (45 mins - 1 hour): Embark on a scenic hike around Mill Mountain, led by our knowledgeable educators. As we wander through the verdant trails, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of native plants and pollinators in action. Our educators will pause the hike to provide fascinating insights into the plants and pollinators we encounter, including their ecological roles and significance.
3. Animal Encounter at the Zoo (1 hour): Conclude our adventure with a visit to the zoo, where we'll delve into the interconnectedness of animals, plants, and pollinators. Our educators will highlight some of the zoo's residents that rely on plants and pollinators for their survival, offering valuable insights into their behaviors and the importance of preserving their habitats.

• Location: Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden, Mill Mountain hiking trails, and Mill Mountain Zoo
• Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours
• Recommended Attire: Comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor exploration, sturdy walking shoes, and layers to accommodate changing temperatures.
• Provided: Field guides, binoculars, and visibility sashes (all provided materials will need to be returned at the end of the program)
• Note: Please bring a water bottle and sunscreen for sun protection during the hike, and be prepared for moderate physical activity. You are welcome to bring any field guides or binoculars of your own as well.
