Welcome to Take a Walk on the Wild Side - Birds!

Join our knowledgeable educators for a delightful morning immersed in the beauty of nature as we explore Mill Mountain. Our journey begins at 7:30AM in front of the Discovery Center before we start our adventure with native bird species that inhabit the area and learn about their significant roles in the ecosystem.

Program Highlights:

  1. Native Bird Species Chat (30 mins): Kickstart the morning with a brief yet informative chat about the diverse array of native bird species found on Mill Mountain. Discover how these avian inhabitants play crucial roles in maintaining the balance of the environment and learn about their fascinating behaviors.
  2. Morning Hike Exploration (45 mins - 1 hour): Embark on a leisurely hike around Mill Mountain, guided by our experienced educators. As we traverse the scenic trails, keep your eyes and ears peeled for sightings of the local birdlife. Our educators will pause along the way to provide insights into the birds we encounter, including their habitats, feeding habits, and migratory patterns.
  3. Bird Encounter at the Zoo (1 hour): Conclude our adventure with a visit to the zoo, where we'll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the birds housed there. Our educators will share fascinating facts about these feathered residents, highlighting their unique characteristics and conservation efforts.
