Behavior

Diurnal and solitary

Description

Tentacled snakes are aquatic snakes with flat bodies, rough scales, and two tentacles on their face for sensing nearby animals. Their stick-like look helps them blend in, and they stay still to guide fish close before striking quickly!

Did you Know?

Tentacled Snakes are rear-fanged, meaning that they have venom but only once the prey gets to the back of their mouth. This venom only affects the specific fish they prefer.

How can I Help?

Tentacled snakes are often removed from their natural habitats to supply the exotic pet trade, which can put additional pressure on wild populations. To help protect these unique animals and reduce the impact on their ecosystems, it’s important to purchase them only from reputable sellers who prioritize animal welfare. Whenever possible, choose animals that have been bred in captivity rather than taken from the wild. Captive-bred individuals are typically healthier, better adjusted to life in human care, and their sale supports more sustainable and ethical practices.
