Spooktacular Fun Awaits At ZooBoo – A Howl-oween Celebration By Mill Mountain Zoo

Roanoke, October 26, 2023 -- Get ready for a frightfully delightful time as Mill Mountain Zoo presents ZooBoo, a spooktacular Halloween event on October 28, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This family-friendly extravaganza promises a day filled with wickedly wonderful fun!

ZooBoo offers something for everyone, from the littlest ghouls to the bravest monster-hunters. Visitors can embark on a spooky adventure where they'll encounter mysterious surprises around every corner. Children can enjoy pumpkin decorating stations, spooktacular crafts, and a costume parade that will have everyone showing off their Halloween spirit. All activities are included with regular admission.

This year Mill Mountain Zoo’s ZooBoo will focus on two of our most beloved animals, the American Black Bear, and the Red Wolf. We will host special chats to discover why bears do some of the things they do, like hibernate. Hyde, the Zoo’s Black Bear, came to the Zoo in 2020 as a rescue. When she came to the Zoo she was severely neglected and malnourished. Today she is happy, vibrant, and healthy. Come visit Hyde and learn all about a majestic animal you’ll find in your own backyard.

The Red Wolf is the other spotlight species for ZooBoo 2023. Red Wolves are particularly special to the Zoo. Mill Mountain Zoo proudly participates in the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP) to preserve and expand the population numbers of this majestic and misunderstood critically endangered species.

The Red wolf is native to the Eastern United States and was once prolific throughout Appalachia. They were declared Extinct in 1987. Tragically, there are only approximately 25 remaining in the wild as of August 2023. This is due to habitat loss due to human encroachment and climate change as well as hunting and vehicle collisions.

Our wolves will take center stage to teach the public about how to be better neighbors and what they can do to be part of the solution to save the species.

We hope to celebrate Halloween with you at ZooBoo ’23!Come trick or treat with the animals and learn all about the Zoo and the good work we do for conservation and the Roanoke community. Every dollar earned at the Zoo goes back into caring for the animals and ensuring their care. We are an independent zoo and depend on the generosity of this amazing community to keep doing our good word.
